Today's trek to Dingboche was exasperating to say the least due to the altitude sickness symptoms I was struggling with. Headache, loss of appetite, nausea, dizziness, stumbling, fumbling. I had it all, luckily though I made it to Dingboche in one piece and got lucky running into a very experienced climber here in the Himalayas. He gave me some Ibuprofen and recommended that I go to the “Altitude Awareness Seminar” held the next day at 3pm. Ya right, I was already feeling better by dinner time and was ready to conquer the next leg of this trek.
We arrived in Dingboche around 3pm today so we weren’t able to see our surroundings all that well due to the cloud cover that sweeps over the mountain villages like a blanket at around 2pm every day. You can count on the cloud cover here like you can count on stepping in at least one Yak pie each day. No matter what, it just happens. I am excited to wake up tomorrow morning for the surprise of my surroundings. Each morning is awesome to wake up to one, because of the transformation the cold brings each village with the white frost that lightly layers every outside surface and two, because of the new mountain panorama that awaits us each and every sunrise
